MEL Composites was a pioneer in Spain in the application of sandwich structures for blades and cabins of wind turbines, incorporating lightweight, strong, and highly durable solutions against demanding weather conditions, with minimal maintenance requirements during the lifespan of the structure (over 25 years).

The cabins of the latest generation wind turbines are self-supporting structures, where the use of sandwich panels allows for reduced transportation and installation costs due to their lower weight, while providing high levels of thermal and acoustic insulation.

In the manufacturing of blades, the use of rigid foam cores in sandwich configuration provides significant advantages, including a substantial reduction in structural weight and greater efficiency in infusion processes, by using the core as a means of resin distribution.

All of this translates into improved productive performance and a substantial reduction in manufacturing costs compared to alternative construction systems.
