The members of AEMAC, among them MEL Composites, leading Spanish supplier of materials, engineering, and technical support for the advanced composites sector, have participated in the development of a project awarded the JEC Innovation Award 2023, alongside their long-time collaborator Nanotures.
The project, developed in collaboration with industrial partners such as Sicomin, Fibertex Nonwovens, Gavazzi, MAP Yachting, Composyst, Saertex, Sky Advanced Materials/Zoltek, and DIAB (all of them members of AEMAC), has consisted of the manufacture of structural beams in composite materials for the roof of the new stadium of Real Madrid CF, whose inauguration is scheduled for the end of the year.
The beams, made of 75 meters in length and sandwich-type configuration, stand out for their high strength-to-weight ratio, which has significantly simplified the lifting and installation processes, as well as reduced the structural weight and energy consumption of the handling and assembly systems.
The JEC Innovation Awards are considered the most prestigious awards internationally in the composite materials industry. In this edition, Nanotures and its partners, including MEL Composites, were recognized in the category of Construction and Civil Engineering.
The award was presented at a ceremony held in Paris on March 2, with the presence of Bartolomé Simonet and José María Lozano (Nanotures), Eduardo Galofré (MEL Composites) and Philippe Marcovich (Sicomin).
‘’We have been a technical partner and materials supplier of Nanotures for many years, and we are proud that the awards committee has recognized the relevance of this infrastructure project in composite materials.
At MEL Composites we are committed to accelerating the adoption of composite materials in the architecture and civil engineering sectors. Projects like this latest innovation from Nanotures are essential to demonstrate the real potential of these materials and expand their applications in large-scale structures, where performance, efficiency, and weight reduction are key factors.’’
