ZEN50 WINS THE 2023 GUSSIES TROPHY IN THE PRODUCTION ELECTRIC BOATS CATEGORY WITH TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND MATERIALS FROM MEL COMPOSITES

The ZEN50, designed and produced by ZEN Yachts, has been awarded the coveted 2023 Gussies award in the Production Electric Boats category for vessels over 8 meters (26 feet). MEL Composites is proud to announce its role in producing the ZEN50 as the primary composite materials supplier and technical advisor for the infusion process.

 

The ZEN50, a zero-emissions ocean-going catamaran powered by solar and wind energy, represents a revolutionary leap in sustainable sailingtechnology, with advanced composites enabling it to continuously sail at cruising speeds ocean-going of 6 to 10 knots, with no need for onboard fuel.

MEL Composites supplies the vinyl ester resinscarbon fibers , and Corecell foam for this 50' (15.7-meter) long catamaran. The MEL and ZEN teams work together to define critical construction details, including mechanical testing of laminate samples, specification of custom CNC-cut core kits, and process setup for infusion. During construction, MEL technicians will be at the shipyard monitoring the infusion strategy and assisting the ZEN team at all times. The combination of MEL Composites' resin infusion expertise , custom raw material handling , and exceptional technical support, ensures the ZEN50's structural weight remains under strict control, guaranteeing the new yacht meets its performance and environmental goals.
